Victim punches pedophile baby-sitter in court as he is spared prison | US News
A victim of child sexual abuse punched his convicted former baby-sitter in court after the sex offender avoided a prison sentence.
Tylor Fu, 29, punched Richard Gross, 80, in the face during the sentencing hearing on October 2, according to authorities.
Fu took the swing at Gross as he was leaving the courtroom with his wife and lawyer. Fu’s blow caused Gross to fall to the ground, according to an arrest report obtained by KLAS.
At the scene, Fu was handcuffed and arrested.
‘I was extremely angry,’ Fu, who said Gross molested him when he was eight to 15 years old, told the TV station last week.
‘I know he’s old, but that doesn’t change anything like that, doesn’t change the damage that he caused, the horrific effects that I had to live through for decades, and it was not justice at all.’
Gross lost consciousness for a brief period and was transferred to UMC trauma, the arrest report stated. His wife said that his glasses were broken due to the blow.
A heavily redacted copy of surveillance footage of the attack was released by Clark County District Court in Nevada. The video does not show the punch moment.
Fu faces a misdemeanor battery charge in the punching incident.
He sued Gross and his wife in 2011 alleging assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, negligent supervision and negligence.
Fu claims that Gross told him he wanted them both to feel good and ‘do not tell anyone, including your mom’, stated the complaint.
Gross was charged with 26 felony counts around alleged sex abuse of a child. He entered an Alford plea – when a defendant pleads guilty because they think a conviction is likely – to a felony count of attempted lewdness with a child under 14.
Under a plea deal, District Court Judge Tierra Jones issued convicted molester Gross a suspended sentence of 60 to 180 months. He was placed on probation, and could be sent to prison if he violated the terms.
‘The justice system failed me in this case and didn’t sentence Richard Gross to any prison time even though the grand jury initially charged him with 26 felonies,’ wrote Fu in a GoFundMe page he set up for himself.
‘I know there are many children and adults that have experienced this and I want you to know that you have the power to come out with it, tells your loved ones, report your abusers to law enforcement, and find justice.’
The GoFundMe had more than $5,300 in donations as of Monday evening.
It is not the only strange incident to happen in court.
In March, a murder suspect who was unshackled during his trial per state of Oregon law ran out of the courthouse. Sheriff’s deputies ran after him, but he was not found until two hours later hiding under a blanket in a closet inside an apartment.
