The police officer charged with murder following the shooting of Chris Kaba will be named publicly next year.

Judge Mark Lucract KC at the Old Bailey has ruled the firearms officer will be named on January 30.

Until now a court order has prevented the officer from being named publicly, and he’s been referred to in court reporting as NX121.

From next January the officer’s name and date of birth will be made public, after the judge dismissed his attempts to have his name withheld from the public.

However Judge Lucract will continue to restrict publication of his address and any images or drawings of him.

Chris Kaba, 24, was shot dead by police in Streatham Hill, London, on September 5 of last year.

Mr Kaba died from a single gunshot wound to the head after he was hemmed in by a police vehicle.

He was driving an Audi when he was followed by an unmarked police car with no lights or sirens.

As he turned into a residential street, he was blocked by a marked police car and a firearms officer fired one shot through the windscreen and hit Mr Kaba.
