A major motorway will be closed for ‘several hours’ following a serious crash in which a man has died.

The M4 is currently closed in both directions near to the Cranford Park Interchange after a car overturned between junctions 2 and 4 at around 11.39am.

The Hounslow division of the Metropolitan Police are in attendance alongside the London Fire Brigade, who say the vehicle involved has been completely destroyed by fire.

The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway, and though currently both sides of the road are closed it’s expected the M4 will be closed eastbound for ‘several hours’.

A spokesman from the Met said: ‘At 11:39hrs on Sunday, 29 October officers were called to reports of overturned car on the eastbound M4 near to the Cranford Park Interchange.

‘Emergency services attended and four people were found with injuries.

‘A man, thought to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene. We are in the process of informing his next of kin.

‘Two other men, also thought to be aged in their 20s, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

‘A fourth person was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to hospital.

‘Officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances.’

Drivers are being asked to find an alternative route and to avoid the area where possible.

Officers say they are in the process of turning around vehicles trapped in the road closure, and are appealing for anyone who saw the crash to get in touch.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 11.34am today (29 October) to reports of a road traffic collision on the M4, Hayes.

‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including three ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, a clinical team manager, members of our hazardous area response team and our tactical response unit.

‘We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

‘We treated three patients at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre. Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.’
