Birmingham: Man tried to rape woman at Winson Green tram stop | UK News
A man tried to rape a woman and pushed her to the ground in broad daylight in what police described as a ‘shocking and incredibly brazen’ attack.
It happened at Winson Green metro stop in Birmingham, at around 2pm on October 10.
Patrols have been stepped up and British Transport Police released CCTV images of a man who may have information about the ordeal.
The woman was followed by a man who pushed her to the ground and into a stairway. He then attempted to rape her.
She screamed for help and the attacker ran off when the next tram arrived.
The victim then left the station and approached another woman in a nearby street for help.
Officers have urged this other woman to come forward to help with the investigation.
The woman injured her knee and needed hospital treatment as a result of the attack.
Detective Inspector Ray Ascott said: ‘This was a shocking and incredibly brazen attack and we are working tirelessly to identify and locate who is responsible.
‘I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the images to get in touch with us as soon as possible as we believe he may be able to assist with our inquiries.
‘The victim is being supported by officers and I would also like to reassure the community that there will be extra reassurance patrols in the coming days in the area.’
