Teacher ‘slammed kindergartner to ground for throwing piece of paper’ | US News

A kindergarten teacher allegedly forced a boy to the ground for throwing a piece of paper at another student.
Margate Elementary School teacher Khadijah Tynnettta Muhammad, 54, saw the kindergartner throw the paper and approached him in ‘an aggressive manner and physically grabbed him by his left wrist’, according to an arrest report obtained by WPLG.
Surveillance footage from the school in Broward County, Florida, captured the behavior of Muhammad, who was not the boy’s teacher.
‘She continued to lift him off the ground by his arms, twist his arms and grabbed him by the back of his shirt while shoving him across the hallway,’ states a police officer in the report.
‘She ripped the jacket off his back and continuously grabbed the student by his arms, wrists, shirt and jacket until the altercation ended.
‘Towards the end of the video, which was partially blocked from the camera view, she appeared to grab him around his neck and slam him to the ground.’
Muhammad assaulted the unnamed boy in front of other students and staff members for about two minutes on October 10, police said.
Cops arrested Muhammed at her home in Lauderdale Lakes and she has been charged with child abuse.
Muhammad’s husband told a WPLG reporter, ‘We have no comment.’
Broward Schools stated that it is ‘working closely with law enforcement regarding this situation, and the teacher involved has been reassigned away from students and the school pending the outcome of the case’.
As of Friday, Muhammed was still employed by Broward Schools.
A parent whose child goes to the elementary school called the incident ‘very disgusting’.
‘I would have never expected that from Margate,’ Marilyn White told the TV station.
Another parent, Nikki Glasco, said: ‘I know our kids may act out at times, but if there’s a problem, leave the disciplining to the parents.’
