A woman has been bailed over the death of a man in his 60s during a baptism ceremony that was being live-streamed on Facebook.

The man, who was in his 60s, is said to have suffered from a medical emergency at the Life Changing Ministries ceremony in Erdington, Birmingham.

He was treated at the scene on Sunday shortly after 1.30pm.

The ministry is led by apostle Cheryl Reid Bartley who is believed to have left an hour-long message on Facebook on Monday referring to a man called Robert Yap who had travelled more than 300 miles to be baptised.

She said that he was ‘in heaven’. She said that he joined the church four years ago and had suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

His baptism was the first scheduled to take place on Sunday but others were carried out afterwards.

Police confirmed they had arrested a 46-year-old woman on suspicion of manslaughter.

A spokesman said: ‘A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of the man’s death, while detectives carry out enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death.

‘A 46-year-old woman who was arrested in Birmingham yesterday has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.’
