Explosion at detention center injures at least four deputies | US News

At least four Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies were injured after an explosion and fire at a training facility.
The blast occurred around 9.30am at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, California.
The prison is also used by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) as a training facility.
The deputies were using a mobile range at the facility when a fire broke out after a ‘training accident.’ The LASD has not commented any further on what may have caused the fire and explosion.
‘We’re still trying to determine that. We know for sure there was a fire,’ said LASD spokesperson Nicole Nishida.
Two of the deputies were hospitalized with critical injuries, while another two were treated for minor injuries.
The four deputies were transported to the hospital by other LASD deputies.
Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) arrived about 10 minutes after the explosion was reported.
A spokesperson for the LAFD said they were fighting the blaze slowly and cautiously because ‘live rounds’ were being stored at the mobile range.
