Train strikes: Which lines are affected today, September 30? | UK News
More travel misery is set to impact travellers over the next nine days with a fresh round of strikes and action short of a strike leaving commuters and other travellers struggling.
The latest industrial action will see members of the Aslef walk out today, Saturday September 30 as well as Wednesday October 4.
Several rail trade unions have been taking industrial action over pay, job security, and working conditions, including the proposal for scrapping staffed booking offices and the introduction of driver-only trains.
To add to the misery of train strikes, London’s Tube network is set to grind to a halt with strikes on October 4 and Friday October 6 – while Aslef members are holding action short of a strike across the week, an overtime ban which is likely to result in hundreds of trains being cancelled.
Ahead of that disruption, which lines are likely to be affected by today’s strike?
Which train lines are affected by the strike today?
The following train operating companies are set to be affected by the strike:
Avanti West Coast
Avanti West Coast have said they will not be operating any service today.
c2c
There will be no service at all on c2c trains today.
Chiltern Railways
Chiltern have confirmed that no services will run on their network today.
Cross Country Trains
There will be no trains running on the Cross Country network on Saturday.
East Midlands Railway
East Midlands Railway will not be running any services today.
Gatwick Express/Great Northern/Southern/Thameslink
Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Great Northern will not run any services today.
There will be a limited Southern shuttle service calling at London Victoria and Gatwick Airport only.
National Rail has advised these trains are likely to be extremely busy, a queueing service will be in operation.
They have also advised passengers to plan ahead, as if you are trying to board one of the last services of the day you may not be able to get on a train, and no alternative transport will be provided.
Onward travel options from Victoria will also be limited. Customers are advised to plan their journey in advance.
Great Western Railway
GWR will operate a severely reduced service on the following routes:
Great Western Railway will be operating a reduced and revised timetable. Many parts of the GWR network will have no service at all. Services will start later (07:30) and all journeys must be completed by 18:30. The very limited service will operate only on the routes below, between:
- London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads
- London Paddington and Oxford
- Reading and Basingstoke
- Westbury and Swindon (AM / PM peak only)
- Cardiff and Bristol Temple Meads
- Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple
- Plymouth and Gunnislake
- Penzance and St Ives
Services will start later than usual, around 7.30am, and all journeys must be completed by 6.30pm.
Those travelling to and from UK Pride at Weston-super-Mare should note that there will be no services to Weston-super-Mare, and so should seek alternative transport.
Those travelling to and from Exeter for Exeter Chiefs v London Scottish should note that there will be no services on the Exmouth branch.
Greater Anglia
A limited service will run on Greater Anglia between Norwich and London, Colchester and London, Southend Victoria and London and Stansted Airport and London.
There will be no service on any other routes, and services will start later and finish earlier than usual.
On a separate note buses will replace trains between Norwich and Ipswich due to planned engineering works.
Heathrow Express
There will be a reduced service on the Heathrow Express, as follows:
- First train departs London Paddington at 07: 25 and then every 30 minutes until 18:25.
- First train departs Heathrow Terminal 5 at 07:57 and then every 30 minutes until 18:57.
- First train departs Heathrow Central at 08:02 and then every 30 minutes until 19:02.
The following services are cancelled:
- From London Paddington – 10:55, 15:25 and 16:55
- From Terminal 5 – 11:27, 15:57 and 17:27
LNER
LNER will operate an extremely limited service on Saturday.
Check their website for details of which services will run. LNER has said rail replacement coaches will operate for their usual calling points between Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Services will also start later and finish earlier than usual, so make sure you plan your journey in advance.
London Northwestern Railway
There will be no service on London Northwestern Railway routes on Saturday.
Northern
Northern will not be operating any trains today.
South Western Railway
South Western Railway will operate a limited service on the following routes:
- London Waterloo and Woking – up to four trains per hour (tph)
- London Waterloo and Guildford via Woking – one train per hour
- London Waterloo and Basingstoke – one train per hour
The remainder of the network, including the Island Line, will be closed. Services will also start and finish earlier and later than usual so make sure to plan your journey in advance.
Southeastern
Southeastern will not operate any trains across any of its routes.
TransPennine Express
There will be no service on any TransPennine Express route today.
West Midlands Railway
There will be no service on any West Midlands Railway routes.
