Mum and daughter stabbed with bag over head alongside dog identified | US News
A teenage girl and her mother who were found stabbed to death alongside their pet dog with a bag over its head in a Brooklyn apartment have been identified and pictured.
The bodies Azeris Wright, 14, and her mom Azalea Rivas, 37, were discovered in a on Monday afternoon next to their poodle mix terrier Biscuit, according to authorities.
Azeris had a stab wound on her back and blunt force trauma to her head, and was also found with a bag over her head that was probably used to contain blood spatter, said New York police Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, according to the Daily Mail.
Rivas died of a lung puncture and had knife slits on her neck and wrists that seemed to be self-inflicted.
The mother and daughter smiled and appeared happy in a photo shared on a GoFundMe page.
Rivas normally looked ‘happy, joyful and friendly’, her neighbor Kathleen Kiki, 57, told the Daily Mail. But on Friday morning as they passed each other walking their dogs, Rivas ‘was not herself’, Kiki said. The mother was speaking with someone on her AirPods and looked ‘very agitated’.
When Kiki asked if she was OK, Rivas said, ‘Yeah, you know.’
Kiki said she was devastated to learn of the deaths of Rivas and her daughter, which law enforcement sources reportedly believe may have been a murder-suicide.
‘I cried. I don’t think she would have taken her life and her daughter’s life,’ said Kiki. ‘I hope they get whoever did this.’
Cops interviewed Rivas’ ex-boyfriend, who remained friends with her, but sources told the New York Post he is not considered a suspect in the deaths.
‘He actually gained entry to the apartment by breaking in the door,’ Kenny said.
The ex-boyfriend also ‘removed the bag from (Azeris’ head) to check her vitals and saw she was dead’, Kenny said.
The GoFundMe page organized by Azeris’ aunt Milina Cayon stated that ‘our family found out the most devastating news that we would ever experience in our lifetime’.
‘This is an event we could not have been prepared for,’ wrote Cayon. ‘From my family, we ask that you are kind as we are grieving deeply for the loss of our loved ones.’
