Man binned clothes after being sprayed with brown liquid in Morrisons | UK News
A man says he was forced to throw his clothes in the bin after a brown liquid shot up his leg in the toilet of a Nottinghamshire Morrisons.
David Devey, 40, lives in Birmingham but regularly stops off in Nottingham with his partner on the way back from seeing her family in Lincolnshire.
It was during one of these trips that Mr Devey stopped off at the Morrisons store in Gamston and, upon entering the male toilets, says he saw that a large section of the floor was cracked and a cone had been placed on top of it.
Mr Devey said: ‘There was a cone there and as I stepped to move around the cone, unbeknown to me I stepped onto a bubble. Under that was this brown liquid which shot up my leg and all over my foot.’
A member of the security team told him that the floor had been broken for some time, prompting him to complain about the situation to staff.
After some wrangling he eventually managed to get a response from the manager, who offered him £20 in compensation.
But Mr Devey says he is unhappy with the response from Morrisons, and that the compensation offer does not cover the pair of jeans and flip flops that he had to throw in the bin.
He added: ‘I had to drive all the way back to Birmingham straight away. We were due to go out for something to eat but I said to my partner that I couldn’t have gone out as I was, so I went home and got straight in the shower.
‘Whenever you go to a Morrisons or Tesco you just expect a certain level of cleanliness but as soon as I opened the door into the gents, I thought that something smelt off.’
A Rushcliffe Borough Council spokesperson said: ‘We received a complaint from a resident on September 19 after a visit to the site in Gamston. Officers are continuing to investigate and will report back to them as soon as possible.’
A spokesperson for Morrisons said: ‘We have spoken to the customer today (September 25) to apologise for his experience in our store and to reiterate how seriously we are taking his complaint.
We will be following up with him in the coming days but in the meantime we can confirm that the leak has been fixed.’
