Man, 18, charged with murder of four-month-old baby boy | UK News
An 18-year-old has been charged with murdering his then-girlfriend’s infant son.
Baby Elijah was four months old when he died on January 2, 2022.
Police were called to the town of Belper in Derbyshire following a report a baby was in cardiac arrest.
He was rushed to hospital but died three days later.
The Crown Prosecution Service has now charged Carl Alesbrook, 18 and from Matlock, with Elijah’s murder as well as inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Elijah’s mother India Shemwell, 22 and from Derby, has been charged with cruelty to a person under 16.
Shemwell has been released on police bail, while Alesbrook has been remanded in police custody.
He is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire magistrates’ court tomorrow.
