Former President Donald Trump reportedly refused to wear a face mask during the coronavirus pandemic when he saw it smudged his face bronzer.

Trump decided to wear a white mask for a visit to a Honeywell factory in May 2020 and asked his staffers to weigh in, according to Cassidy Hutchinson, ex-aide to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

‘I slowly shook my head,’ wrote Hutchinson in her forthcoming memoir Enough, according to the New York Post.

‘The president pulled the mask off and asked why I thought he should not wear it.’

Hutchinson said she showed Trump the straps of her face mask and that he then checked his own and realized ‘they were covered in bronzer’.

‘Why did no one else tell me that?’ said Trump, according to the former aide. ‘I’m not wearing this thing.’

Trump proceeded to receive approval from the ‘head of Honeywell’ not to wear a mask at the event, while also claiming he wore one ‘for a period of time’.

‘The press would criticize him for not wearing a mask, not knowing that the depths of his vanity had caused him to reject masks,’ Hutchinson wrote. ‘And then millions of his fans followed suit.’

Hutchinson, 27, was a star witness in hearings by a House select committee that investigated the January 6 Capitol riot. She shared an account of Trump attacking security detail who refused to bring him to the Capitol as the insurrection unfolded. Enough, to be published this Tuesday, details Hutchinson’s journey from working for Trump to turning on him.

In another excerpt obtained by The Guardian earlier this week, Hutchinson claimed that Trump’s former personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, groped her on January 6 ‘like a wolf closing in on its prey’.

Trump has been mocked by opponents as having an ‘orange’ face.

The Washington Post in 2019 reported that the ex-president wanted certain items to be in his bedroom bureau at all times including ‘Bronx Colors-brand face makeup from Switzerland that Trump slathered on – two full containers, one half full – even if it meant the housekeepers had to regularly bring new shirts from the pro shop because of the rust-colored stains on the collars’.
