Neighbor breaks in home and beats 6-year-old boy unconscious with bat | US News

A man allegedly broke into the home of his six-year-old neighbor and beat him unconscious with a baseball bat.

Daniel Logan, 39, is accused of beating the young boy named Jeremy in his bedroom and leaving him with brain swelling and skull fractures, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin-American Statesman.

‘Jeremy is a bright, vibrant child with a heart full of dreams and a future brimming with potential,’ states a GoFundMe page started by his neighbor, Laila.

‘But his life took a tragic turn when he was viciously attacked in his home, leaving him with severe injuries and a long, uncertain road to recovery.

‘His innocent smile has been replaced with pain and suffering, but we refuse to let him face this battle alone.’

Jeremy remains unconscious in his hospital bed more than a week after the attack in Georgetown, Texas.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the motive of the attack. The office called it a ‘random act’, according to the New York Post.

‘In a world filled with innocence and dreams, on Monday, September 11 of 2023, their sweet 6-year-old Jeremy was thrust into a nightmare that no child should ever have to endure,’ wrote Laila.

‘Jeremy is currently fighting for his life after a horrifying attack that left him in critical condition.’

He loved to practice jiu jitsu, play soccer and paint, his father, Art, told the Statesman.

After attacking the boy, Logan also allegedly struck his own mother in her face using the bat, according to the affidavit.

From her hospital bed, Logan’s mother told a detective that she saw her son go to their neighbor’s home with a bat and followed him to the second floor, where she saw Jeremy ‘slumped on the floor of an upstairs bedroom’, states the affidavit. She said she begged Logan to stop, at which point he hit her with the bat.

Logan has been arrested and charged with injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member. Both first-degree felonies carry up to 99 years in prison. He did not have a prior criminal history in the state.

The GoFundMe page for Jeremy had received more than $226,000 in donations as of Thursday afternoon.
