Trumps mocks Biden’s ‘surrender speech’ at United Nations | US News
Former President Donald Trump mocked his successor Joe Biden’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, calling it a ‘surrender’.
Trump claimed that ‘nobody’ showed up for President Biden’s address to world leaders at 78th United Nations General Assembly.
‘Biden just finished his surrender (“speech”) at the United Nations, and nobody, despite all we give them, showed up,’ wrote Trump on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday afternoon.
‘No respect for America any longer!’
Photos showed that many seats at the organization’s New York headquarters were occupied. However, some delegates scrolled their phones on Instagram and Google Maps during Biden’s speech, according to a pool reporter.
Numerous world leaders skipped the general assembly this year, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
But some of Biden’s allies met with him at the G20 Leaders’ Summit last week in New Delhi, India.
In his address, Biden called on leaders from at least 145 nations to stand together amid Russia’s continued war on Ukraine.
‘Russia believes that the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalize Ukraine without consequence,’ said Biden.
‘But I ask you this: If we abandon the core principles of the UN Charter to appease an aggressor, can any member state feel confident that they are protected?’
Biden doubled down on the US’s commitment to support Ukrainians ‘as they defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity, and their freedom’.
Trump himself did not face the greatest reception when he last addressed the general assembly in 2018. Trump at the time claimed that he ‘accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country’ over two years in office.
Some audience members laughed at the remark – to which Trump said, ‘Didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK.’
