A mother bear and her cub with a sweet tooth raided a Krispy Kreme doughnuts delivery van and devoured boxes of the treats.

The black bears broke into a van parked at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska, after the driver left the door open.

‘You could hear them breaking open the packages,’ JBER store manager Shelly Deano told KTUU.

‘We were trying to beat on the van but they just kept eating all the doughnuts.

‘They ate 20 packages of the doughnut holes and I believe six packages of the three-pack chocolate doughnuts.’

The driver neglected to close the door while while making a regular stop at an Express store on the base.

Deano called security workers on the base, who used loud sirens to get the bears to leave the van. The bear and her cub disappeared into the woods.

The general manager of the Krispy Kreme shops in Muldoon and Wasilla said she had not experienced an incident like Tuesday’s in seven years on the job.

‘We’ll definitely be learning to slide up our ramp, close the doors, to ensure that bears don’t get back in there again,’ Candice Sargeant told the TV station with a laugh.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game encourages people to report ‘human-wildlife conflicts, or injured, aggressive or orphaned animals’.

It was not the only recent incident of a bear gobbling up baked goods.

In May, a bear walked into the Taste by Spellbound bakery in Avon, Connecticut. An employee was loading cupcakes into a delivery van when she made eye contact with the bear, and ran into the kitchen screaming.

The bear then took the opportunity to drag a box of cupcakes outside and started enjoying them. It wasn’t until another worker drove a car over to the bear and honked the horn that it backed off.
