Hunter Biden was indicted on federal gun charges, according to court documents filed on Thursday.

Special Counsel David Weiss has charged President Joe Biden’s son with three charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018.

As a known drug user, Biden was prohibited from owning a firearm. He was also charged with lying about his status on a federal registration form.

The indictment charges Biden with making ‘knowingly made a false and fictitious written statement, intended and likely to deceive that dealer’ while filling out a form for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).’

On the form, he indicated he was not an ‘unlawful user of, and addicted to, any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance.’

Biden has detailed his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, and had previously been discharged from the US Navy Reserve in 2014 after failing a drug test.

If convicted, Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000.

Biden had previously accepted a plea deal for the same incident in June, but the deal fell apart a month later.

The indictment comes only two days after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced he would begin an impeachment investigation into President Biden.

McCarthy ‘serious and credible allegations’ against the president and accused him of fostering a ‘culture of corruption.’

The allegations came from a House Oversight Committee probe into Hunter Biden’s overseas business deals.

Republicans on the committee have accused President Biden of having knowledge of and benefitting from his son’s positions, including his time as a board member of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings.

However, critics have dismissed the inquiry, and argued that the Republicans have not provided any hard evidence that the president was involved in his son’s affairs.

Maryland Rep Jamie Raskin, the Oversight Committee’s ranking Democrat, said he saw ‘‘zero evidence of wrongdoing whatsoever.’
