Daniel Khalife’s arrest less than 10 miles from prison caught on camera | UK News
The terror suspect who escaped prison and was on the run for four days has been arrested less than 10 miles away.
Daniel Khalife escaped HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday morning after clinging to the underside of a food delivery van.
Ports and airports were on high alert over fears he could try and flee the country.
But this morning the Metropolitan Police confirmed Khalife had been arrested in the Chiswick area at around 11am – around seven miles away from the prison.
He was found by undercover police officers next to London’s Grand Union Canal, the Sun reports, with a sleeping bag, a bike, and a Waitrose cool bag of food.
Eyewitness Ethan Andrews was on his way to the gym when he spotted the arrest.
He explained: ‘I was crossing over the bridge and saw this man with cable ties around his hands.
‘One of the cops said “we’re undercover officers”.
‘I keep up with the news and I recognised him and said “is that the guy who was in prison?”, and one officer said yes.
‘I pulled my phone out and started filming. The police told me not to but how often am I going to see something like this again?
‘The three officers had him on the floor and then five minutes later there were loads more police on the scene – some from the Territorial Support Group too.
‘The guy had been on a bike and had a sleeping bag – he seemed to have a change of clothes.’
A spokesman for the Met said: ‘Metropolitan Police officers have arrested Daniel Khalife, who escaped from HMP Wandsworth on September 6.
‘Officers apprehended him just before 11am today, in the Chiswick area, and he is currently in police custody.

‘We would like to thank the public and media for their support throughout our investigation to locate Khalife and we will provide a further update on his arrest in due course.’
Khalife was awaiting trial for charges relating to terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences.
He was accused of preparing an act of terrorism and collecting information useful to an enemy, and was allegedly working for a hostile state. He denied the three charges against him and was set to go to trial in November.
