Gibraltar: British girl ‘raped 10 times’ as police arrest man | World News
A British girl has allegedly been raped 10 times by a care worker in Gibraltar, on the headland on Spain’s south coast.
Pedro Luis Garcia Vallejo, 25, from La Línea, was charged this week with 10 counts of rape against an underage child and one count of sexual activity with a youth.
Vallejo was released on bail in the sum of £2,000 in his own recognisance on Friday, the Gibraltar Chronicle reported.
Among the conditions of his bail, he is not allowed to contact the victim.
The juvenile worked locally on the island as a care worker but has since been suspended pending a work investigation.
Stipendiary magistrate Charles Pitto, the newspaper said, has sent Vallejo’s case to the Supreme Court.
The defendant will stand trial at the top court on September 14.
Officials have not confirmed the nationality of the victim but local media have reported her as British.
Royal Gibraltar Police said Vallejo first appeared in the Magistrates Court on Wednesday before being remanded.
‘A Spanish man appeared in the Magistrates’ Court this morning, charged with one count of Sexual Activity with a Child: Abuse of Position of Trust and 10 counts of Rape against an underage female,’ the force said at the time.
A ‘position of trust’ offence, under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, targets situations where the child, particularly vulnerable ones, has some dependency on the adult involved.
