The White House appeared to point the finger at Russia for Wagner group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s plane crash death.

Asked if the Biden administration believes Russian President Vladimir Putin was behind Prigozhin’s crash last week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: ‘It seems pretty evident what happened here.’

‘As the president said, said this recently, I believe as early as last week, and I quote, “There’s not much that happens in Russia that Putin is not behind,”‘ she said on Tuesday.

‘And if it’s what it seems to be, this… certainly was not just predictable but it was predicted.’

Jean-Pierre added that ‘we all know that the Kremlin has a long history of killing its opponents’.

She said that a Russian warlord and cold-blooded murderer ‘became so frustrated by the way that the Russian government was waging its unprovoked war against Ukraine’ that he directly criticized Putin’s policies.

Prigozhin led a short-lived rebellion and march on Moscow before reaching a deal with Putin.

‘So now, two months later, after he struck that deal, he’s been killed,’ Jean-Pierre said.

‘It’s very clear. It’s pretty evident what happened here. I don’t have anything else to say.’
