August 2023 rail strikes: When the next action dates are | UK News
Unfortunately, more train strikes are coming this summer as the ongoing dispute between rail unions, the Rail Delivery Group, and the government continues.
Several rail trade unions have been taking industrial action over pay, job security, and working conditions, including the proposal for scrapping staffed booking offices and the introduction of driver-only trains.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch has said the union had to call more strike action as they have ‘received no improved or revised offer from the Rail Delivery Group.’
Mr Lynch described the mood among members as remaining ‘solid and determined’ and accused the government of not allowing the RDG to have ‘a fresh mandate on which discussions could be held’.
20,000 RMT members are now set to take further strike action this summer.
In response, a Rail Delivery Group (which represents 14 Train Operating Companies) spokesperson accused the RTM of ‘targeting customers looking to enjoy various sporting events, festivals, and the end of the summer holidays, disrupting their plans and forcing more cars onto the road.’
They went on to say: ‘We have now made three offers, the latest of which would have given staff pay rises of up to 13% as well as job security guarantees and the RMT executive have blocked this without a convincing explanation.’
With little progress seemingly being made, more strikes are set to occur.
Here is what you need to know.
