USA: People forced to climb down roller coaster after it breaks down | US News

Terrifying pictures have showed ride-goers in America scramble down a set of rollercoaster stairs.

Cedar Point’s Magnum XL 200 in Sandusky, Ohio broke down on Monday.

Riders were forced to slowly climb down on a set of stairs 205ft high after the ride could not be restarted.

Josh Lett witnessed the dramatic incident unfold. He told Fox News Digital: ‘I haven’t seen anything similar to this happen before.’

Grainy images show the ride passengers delicately making their way down the stairs while nervously holding a barrier.

A mechanical issue is believed to have caused the incident.

The Magnum XL 200 is one of the fastest and steepest roller coasters on Earth.

It held the title of tallest roller coaster in the world until 1994 when The Big One opened at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK.

Park officials described to the Monday incident as a ‘standard ride stoppage.’

There’s been a spate of recent rollercoaster incidents across America in recent weeks.

The Boomerang coaster at Wild Adventures theme park in Georgia got stuck in July.

A young rider, Rishon Phillips, told WALB: ‘I was hearing noises and I thought it was gonna go down, but when my cousin told me it was stuck.

‘I had a panic attack.’

Just a week earlier, rollercoaster riders were stuck upside down for several hours when a ride in Wisconsin stopped suddenly at a county fair.

The eight riders – seven of them children – were left hanging for at least three hours.
