It doesn’t matter what social media site you’re using – Facebook, Twitter (sorry – X), Instagram – there’ll come a time where you quite literally get sick of the sight of someone.

On TikTok, that might be an ex (alphabet dating doesn’t work for everyone), a friend you’ve fallen out with, someone who’s tried to ghostlight you and you need a clean break.

Or you might just really hate someone’s content – which is fair. People are out there starting dangerous trends, after all.

If you don’t want your hours of scrolling TikTok to be ruined by an unwelcome face, here’s how to block someone…

How to block someone on TikTok

It’s quite simple to do. Go to the profile of whoever it is you want to give the ultimate silent treatment.

When you’re on their page, click on the Arrow icon at the top right hand side of the page.

Once you’ve clicked this, you’ll have a bunch of options pop up – such as sending their profile to someone or blocking them.

Will people know I’ve blocked someone on TikTok?

TikTok won’t send them a notification telling them they’ve been blocked, but it will be obvious if they try to search for your profile.

Blocking users disables them from viewing your videos or engaging with you through direct messages, comments, follows or likes.

To unblock them, simply type in their username in the search bar.

You’ll find their page, but you wont see any videos. Instead, there’ll be a rather unmissable red button prompting you to ‘Unblock.’

Press it, then confirm you’re happy to unblock them – which means them being able to contact you and see your content once again.

What are some other privacy options on TikTok?

If you don’t quite want to block someone but you’d prefer to keep some videos private, you can change who can see your videos when you go to post.

Some you can literally keep just to yourself – or you can choose to only share videos with people you follow and who follow you back.

This is done during the upload process, when taking a video, look at the bottom of the screen. There’ll be an option asking you if you want your post to be shared with the world.

Click on it, and you can change the privacy option.
