August weather forecast UK 2023: Met Office predicts 10 days of rain | UK News

Hold off planning any barbeques, as August is set to be a drizzly one.

Forecasters have warned of overcast weather and similar rainy conditions as we have seen already in July.

Mainland Europe is battling heatwaves and wildfires, but the UK has luckily escaped the same level of heat as last year.

However, warnings have been made that 40°C summer temperatures will soon be considered an ‘average’ year.

In the near future, temperatures will drop in many areas of the country.

London will face a long ten days of rain and showers between July 29 and August 7, according to forecasters.

Meteorologist Phil Morrish told the Express: ‘There will be another seven to 10 days of this unsettled weather as the jet stream comes in from the west giving us periods of rain and showers and moderate temperatures of 20°C in the south and 17 to 18°C in the north.’

The Met Office has a similarly gloomy outlook for the coming weeks.

Its website states for the coming days: ‘Unsettled conditions will persist through the start of August, with days of sunny spells and showers perhaps interspersed with periods of more persistent rain as low pressure systems move across the UK.

‘When these low pressure systems occur, they are more likely to run across southern parts of the UK while the north remains drier.

‘Otherwise, on showery days, showers will often be concentrated in the north and east, where they may be heavy and thundery at times and could occasionally merge into longer spells of rain.

‘Western areas are more likely to remain drier, although the chance of showers remains.

‘Temperatures are expected to be slightly below normal, with a brisk northwesterly breeze exacerbating the cool feel.

‘Overall, there is a higher than usual risk of strong winds.

In the later half of August, there is an increased chance that the unsettled conditions will persist with a mixture of rain and showers continuing to affect the UK.

‘There is a signal for short-lived drier, brighter and occasionally warmer interludes towards the end of August, however a prolonged dry and hot spell is unlikely.’

The south of England has seen rainy weather over recent weeks, where Scotland and the north have enjoyed brighter spells.

Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge told MailOnline: ‘The forecast for the next couple of weeks is unsettled but that shouldn’t give an impression of continuous or heavy rain.

‘There is rain in the forecast for London for the next few days, but a lot of this rain will be showers, between which clearer spells will prevail.’
