Four people were killed in Malibu after a driver lost control of their car on the Pacific Coast Highway.

The deadly crash took place around 8.30pm on Tuesday night on the iconic southern California roadway, near a dangerous curve near Carbon Beach.

According to the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the driver lost control of his vehicle before swerving into parked cars.

‘Preliminary information indicates four vehicles were involved in a traffic collision. Four female adults were pronounced deceased at the scene,’ the LASD said in a statemenet

Two more people were hospitalized. Their current status is unknown.

It is unclear if the people killed were pedestrians or inside the parked cars.

Photos from the scene show devastating damage to multiple cars along the highway.

‘This one’s tough, there’s a lot of carnage,’ Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Sheila Kelliher told reporters at the scene. ‘Any time you come and there’s four bodies that didn’t survive, that’s a tough one to watch.

Locals in Southern California frequently refer to this area as a ‘Dead Man’s Curve,’ NBC4 Los Angeles reported.

‘People don’t understand that they need to slow down around that curve and they lose control,’ one local told the station.

A stretch of the four-lane highway was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday morning as police and first responders worked the site of the devastating crash.

The Lost Hills Sheriff Station said the highway will remain closed indefinitely on Wednesday morning.

The LASD is asking drivers and locals to ‘avoid the area, use an alternate route.’

A male driver was detained by police, who administered a field sobriety test on the driver at the scene. He reportedly passed the test.

Investigators are currently trying to determine if he was racing on the four-lane highway.
